Space And Beyond

New York City is about sixty miles away. Since the Fantasti-Car is here, that's a trip of a few minutes. But it only seats four, duh.

This, however, is Avengers Base. Quinjets are present in plenty. One of those could carry seven or ten people.

Sue can fly a plane, as can Storm. Pretty sure Ant-Man and Spider-Man can't, although Spider-Man could learn, given time.

The Scarlet Witch cannot fly a plane.

The Vision has never learned to fly a plane.

Machine Man ... who knows?

But the bottom line is, getting to the Baxter Building, and then Space, is no problem.

Once there, however, the assembled heroes will face The Collector, with rage powers AND the Serpent Crown of Lemuria. On the upside, Machine Man knows the layout of the Star Museum ship, so if you need armor, weapons, refreshments, maps, gifts, gift wrap, fashions, games, toys, books, oddities, curiosities, ephemera, miscellanea or etcetera ... got you covered.

If we count Machine Man and the Vision in on this, that's seven heroes. Do you have any particular way you want to fight the Collector, or shall we just wing it? That's seemed to work so far.

Spider-Man's spider-sense is faintly tingling. There is danger.

He moves left. Still danger.

He moves right. Still danger.

He moves all across the airbase, swinging and jumping. Still the exact same level of danger, on both sides of the sprawling facility.

Is it New York State that's in danger? Or the whole Western Hemisphere, maybe?

  1. Scarlet Witch muses:
"Sometime, I shall have to see New York City when I am not on the way to a battle."

Looks at the skyline. Then up in the sky. Can she see the Collector's ship?

  2. ANT MAN
Ant Man will shrink down and listen to what Namor says. He will then grew back to normal size and repeat the comments.

If he seems angry, I will ask the Spider-Man to web him, and then grow him back, web and all. The larger web should hold him. I also ask the Invisible Girl to put a force field around him.

Ant Man will gather his ants into the quinjet, and then into the Fantasti-Rocket once we reach the Baxter Building.

I radio Hank Pym, my scientist friend, to ask him if he has hundreds of tiny ant-shaped space suits? Or an airtight space version of the Antman suit? Preferably both? If so, meet me at the Baxter Building immediately!

    1. Darn right Namor seems angry! But the webbing works, if you use enough of it. Of course, Spider-Man is notoriously distractible.

    2. Oh, and Namor's statement was that the Serpent Crown can make obedient slaves of anyone without an iron will. Like Namor.

  3. "Now how did you know I had an Ant-Man space suit?" says Hank. "The seals are all dried out .. I haven't used it since 1979. But I'll replace 'em and meet you there. The Baxter Building, eh? Okay, it'll be good to catch up with ol' Stringbean Reed."

"As for hundreds of ant space suits ... you know ants breathe through spiracles in their armored skin, right? So they won't drown in space and they won't explode, because they don't have lungs. A carpenter ant could survive, oh, ten hours in vacuum easily. It's the bright sunlight in space, with no way to shed heat, that will be bad for them."

  4. SPIDER-MAN

When the Thing and Iron Man were fighting, Peter uses his secret belt buckle camera to snap a picture of it.

Then, after the fight, he says, "Hey, everyone! My spidersenses are warning me of danger, all over the place, left and right, up, down, everywhere. Maybe the whole Eastern seaboard. Maybe the world."

Peter Parker wonders how he is in glass tube in the Collector's ship and down here at the same time. "Suffering spiders! Have I learned how to bilocate without knowing it?" He thinks in a thought bubble.

"Snap out of it, Spidey! There are much more reasonable explanations. Maybe it is Miles Morales! Maybe it is Miguel O'Hara! Maybe it is Flash Thompson! Or the Chameleon! or Mysterio! Or a robot created by Kang the Conqueror to attack the Avengers!...Or maybe it is Hitler!"

He asks to use the payphone. He calls Aunt May and says he is going bowling with friends and won't be back until late. Tomorrow. Or the next day.... maybe next week...

He calls Mary Jane, and says he has to break their date to go bowling tonight, on account of... uh... rain.... no, that makes no sense... Aunt May needs me.

Peter hangs up the phone and hangs his head while a black cloud of sad thought hangs over him along with black wavy lines of his spider senses continuing to tingle. "I am a the worst liar ever. Why do I do this? I ought to have my head examined."

Then he checks on the SHIELD agents on the ground to make sure they are OK. He asks, "Do you guys need me to call the Fire Department? Or a hospital? Or both?" He looks at Machine Man and Vision and adds "Or maybe a garage? or a machine shop?"

Spidey helps them if they need help.

After, Spider-Man says, "Does anyone here have a number for the Guardians of the Galaxy? We should call them!" (unless he does not know Nova or the Guardians, in which case, he does not say that).

Spidey gets aboard the quinjet and follows the group to the Baxter Building.

Once the quinjet is in the air, does the spider sense of danger diminish? If so, we should radio back and tell everyone to get off the base!

    1. Good thought! But no, the feeling of danger slightly intensifies. It's hard to pick out low-level spider sense from recurring worries about Aunt May, Mary Jane, money, and how he's up on a spaceship but also here ... BUT it seems, SEEMS, mind you, that the level of danger is increasing.

  5. The responses are going by more quickly than we expected. How often should we look for new posts? The boys are really disappointed when they miss their chance to respond.

Storm can fly a plane. She will fly back down from where she had tried to follow the Collector and fly whatever vehicle is needed. She will find if Iceman and Colossus can meet them, or can be picked up on the way.

Once they arrive at the Baxter Building, we all get in the spaceship. Storm puts Spiderman in front and tells him to use his danger sense as radar, so they can avoid unseen dangers.
